Success! Message received.

Since the early 2000’s, New Zealand has seen a rapid increase in health workers coming from the Philippines.  Most of these Filipinos have found good jobs and are able to apply for residency, ultimately becoming citizens in the land they call their new home.  Unfortunately, there are many who are still struggling to adjust working and living here.

There are also those who are facing many obstacles in applying to work and live in New Zealand.
In the past, Filipino organizations have been formed to act as support systems to address these problems.  However, the lack of a unified voice for Filipino nurses has prompted a small group of Filipino nurses to come together and create a society which aims to unify the Filipino nursing population in New Zealand.

The goal is to enhance solidarity among Filipino nurses, to promote professionalism and work ethics, to protect the welfare and work conditions in various workplaces and to provide representation of Filipino nurses who are already here in New Zealand.
WHO WE ARE:

The Filipino Nurses Association of New Zealand, Inc. (FNANZ) is a non-profit organisation of Filipino nurses in New Zealand who work together to unify and build positive relationships between Filipino nurses and their employers, other organisations and government agencies.

WHAT IS OUR VISION:

The Filipino Nurses Association of New Zealand, Inc. envisions an organisation that will act as a voice for all Filipino nurses in New Zealand by addressing welfare and work-related issues, anticipating trends in the workforce and by setting the agenda for work-related policies in the future.

WHAT IS OUR MISSION:

To achieve our vision, FNANZ will promote solidarity among Filipino nurses, uphold and protect Filipino nurses’ welfare and development, and represent Filipino nurses in endeavours that will shape their future in New Zealand.

WHAT WE DO:

FNANZ advances Filipino nurses’ welfare through advocacy, linkages, special projects and policies.

Voice: There is strength in numbers.  An incorporated association allows Filipino nurses in New Zealand to have a dialogue with the New Zealand Government, the Nursing Council of New Zealand and the Philippine Embassy and its Consular Offices regarding concerns and issues affecting them.  These issues include immigration, health and safety, better working conditions among others.

Immigration: The association provides assistance to Filipino nurses who are working or are intending to migrate to New Zealand.  FNANZ seeks to provide the appropriate information to Filipinos who want to study, work and live in New Zealand for them to avoid unscrupulous recruitment immigration practices.  In the future, FNANZ will seek to lobby for caregivers and health care assistants to be included in the shortage skill list and be classified as a skilled employment.

Community: The association holds an annual gathering of Filipino nurses to promote socialization and to recognize achievements of outstanding members for their contributions in their specific fields

PURPOSE:
  • The following are the purposes of the Filipino Nurses Association of New Zealand, Inc.:
  • Enhance solidarity of Filipino nurses in New Zealand;
  • Promote the professionalism, work ethics and dedication of Filipino nurses in New Zealand;
  • Protect the welfare and work conditions of Filipino nurses in New Zealand;
